Obituary For Irene (Binegar) Ibsen

Irene A. (Binegar) Ibsen, 99, passed away Monday Aug. 14, 2006 in Rapid City. Irene was born Nov. 25, 1906 at Iona, SD to Irving and Jennie (Jensen) Thompson. She was the oldest of 7 children. She married Claude Binegar Dec. 30, 1925 at Chamberlain, SD. They lived on a farm near Dixon, SD where their 3 children were born: John – 1927; Marie – 1928 and Robert – 1930. The family moved to Iona in 1933 where Claude owned and operated a Conoco Service Station and Garage. October 1938 the family moved to Rapid City because of Irene’s asthma there in the farming area. Irene was employed at the Rapid City Public Library from 1940 to 1955 and on Feb. 14, 1955 she married Elmer Ibsen. They moved to Dubois, WY, where Elmer was co-owner of a service station and cabins. In 1957 they returned to Rapid City where Elmer was employed at the School of Mines until his retirement. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elmer Ibsen, 4 sisters, 1 brother, granddaughter Bonnie Jo Binegar and 1 son, John Binegar, May 6, 2006. She is survived by her daughter Marie Ellis, Rapid City; son Robert Binegar and wife Ann, Hot Springs; daughter-in-law Polly Binegar, Rapid City; 11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; 1 sister, Ellys Brignull, Winter Haven, FL and many nieces and nephews.
