Obituary For Iva M. Engelhardt

Iva Mae (McGregor, Guiser) Engelhardt, 101, Rapid City, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2011, at Golden Living Center – Prairie Hills. Mae was born on December 6, 1909, on the family farm near Wessington Springs to George and Lottie (Darner) McGregor. When she was 10 years old the family moved from Wessington Springs to a farm near Quinn, South Dakota, where she attended school and graduated from Quinn High School as the valedictorian in 1929. After graduation she attended Black Hills Teachers College in Spearfish in 1929 and 1930. She taught school for 13 years in various country schools in Quinn for 4 years and New Underwood for one year. She moved to Rapid City in 1951 where she lived in the same house since. Mae loved her horses and the farm life and was an accomplished seamstress as well as loving to knit, crochet and tat. She was known by many as the lady who made Barbie doll clothes. Mae is survived by her children: David Guiser, Alice and husband Bill Hickman, Edward and wife Wendy Engelhardt, all of Rapid City; 2 sisters, Delores Ermish and Darlene and husband Gerald Ness, all of Rapid City; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husbands Paul Guiser and Edward O. Engelhardt; her parents, 6 sisters, 4 brothers, and her daughter-in-law Noreene (Belmont) Guiser.
