Obituary For Iver Flatmoe

Iver Flatmoe, 78, Rapid City, died Monday July 10, 2006 at his home. Iver was born to Kristoffer and Petra (Kornstad) Flatmoe Aug. 29, 1927 in Norway. When he was 23 months old, the family moved to America, settling in Cole Springs, SD. Iver graduated from the 8th grade in Cole Springs and then entered the US Army and the age of 18 and was honorably discharged in August 1947. Iver met Helen Rosenau in 1949 while working for the Fort Randall Dam at Pickstown (Lake Andes, SD) and they were married in Clark, SD on April 15, 1950. When work at the dam closed down for the winter, the couple moved to Kansas City, where he studied auto and diesel mechanics, working part-time at various jobs. When Iver finished school, they returned to SD settling in Rapid City on Nov. 11, 1959. Iver worked for Pete Lien Sand and Grave for 34 years. He was an all around handyman and there was no job he would not tackle and was successful at it. He became a good welder and fabricated and built a good part of the new Lime Plant. Iver is survived by his wife, Helen; 2 daughters, Marilyn and husband Greg Bolt; Bonnie and husband Randall Wheaton; 1 son, Kristopher and wife Janna Flatmoe all of Rapid City; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Hanna (George Allen) Iversen, Murdo, SD; Ingrid Gebhart, Meadow, SD; Clara Duncan, Mobridge, SD; 2 brothers, Harold (Lillian) Flatmoe, Meadow, SD and Kenneth (Charlotte) Flatmoe, Sturgis, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 daughter, Carol Huffman.Condolences may be conveyed to the family at www.behrenswilson.com.
