Obituary For Jacqueline J. Means

Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ was born in Pierre, S.D. on May 29, 1924. She was the daughter of Rodrick and Ruth Borden-Philip. Jackie lived at the James (Scotty) Philip ranch until moving with her parents to a ranch northwest of Midland, S.D. and later resided in Rapid City.After her father’s death, Jackie, her Mother and brothers, Rodrick James Philip and Robert Scotty Philip, moved to the Cheyenne Agency, where she later met and married Jerome P. Mack. They resided in Rapid City until moving to Atascadero, CA, for 9 years and finally returning to the Black Hills area until her death.In 1960, she married Harold Means until his death in 1994. Harold was a Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff Glenn Best and retired as a project manager for the S.D. State Highway Department. Jackie worked at the Sheraton Hotel, Westwood Restaurant, Duhamel Trading Post, and President’s Liquor Store. She was active in the local Liquor Dealers’ Association and a past member of the American Business Women’s Association. Jackie was preceded in death by her son Patrick Jerome Mack, her grandson Patrick J. Mack and son-in-law Robert Lamoureux. She is survived by her daughter Gerrie Ann Lamoureux of Salix, IA, Daniel J. Mack of Port Aransas, TX, Ronald P. and Sheryl R. Mack of Westminster, CO and April Trancynger, of Spearfish, S.D. and her long time significant other, Orlando Enebo, of Black Hawk, S.D. Jackie has seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Jackie would like to be remembered as one who embraced life and thought of death as coming “full circle”. Her love of life included her family, her friends, and her love of stitchery and gardening. She loved sports and took pride in following her children and grandchildren’s love of sports.
