Obituary For James 'Jim' Hart
James (Jim) Clayton Hart, 87, Porcupine, died Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at the Hot Springs VA Medical Center. He was born June 15, 1929 to Clayton Hart and Jesse Stone. He was brought home to Kube Table where they lived for 2 years and from there they moved to Scenic, SD where they ran the grocery store. He went to grade school in Scenic and at the age of 13 he went to work each summer for the railroad and helped hay up on top of Sheep Mountain. He went to Scenic High School and was the last surviving member of Scenic’s last graduating class of seniors in 1947. March 13, 1951 he enlisted in the Navy. He was honorably discharged in June of 1953 with a medical discharge. From there he went north to Wall and went into the sheep business. In 1957 he bought the bar in Scenic. Soon after in the year of 1960 he married Bonnie Lee Steen and they ran the bar until 1968. After selling the bar, they moved to the reservation buying the Minnie Gall place where they ranched. In 1968 he started driving bus for Shannon Co schools where he drove bus for 37 years. Upon retiring he went back to the ranch full-time and stayed there until the time of his death. He is survived by his wife Bonnie; and family members Mike, Jean, Stacy and Zach Kieffe.
