Obituary For James Lewis Quest

How does one sum up a person's life in a couple of paragraphs? James (Jim) Quest lived a full and happy life. He took his place in Heaven on Sunday, December 27, 2015 after a very brief illness at the age of 81. His death was unexpected and sudden and though we are never ready to say goodbye, his family was able to surround him with love as he took his last breath. Jim was born on March 31, 1934 in Sundance, Wyoming to Eugene and Elizabeth Quest. He lived in Laramie, Wyoming before joining the Air Force at the age of 19. The next 24 years were spent stationed at many different bases from Iceland to Guam. Shortly after joining the Air Force he met the love of his life, Berniece. Jim and Berniece were united in marriage on October 6, 1953. From this union came 3 children, Dan, Pam and Randy. Jim took his last Air Force base assignment at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota in July 1972. It was here that he fell in love with Rapid City and the Black Hills and decided to make Rapid City their retirement home in 1976. For the next 30 years Jim and Berniece ran Sunshine Auto Repair in Box Elder, SD. Cars were his passion and he loved tinkering with them. That passion for something with motor and 4 wheels soon spilled over to racing. Building race cars wasn’t just a hobby to him, they were his life. He and Berniece enjoyed nearly 20 years of watching their sons Dan and Randy race at Black Hills Speedway. Some of the other things Jim and Berniece enjoyed were fishing, camping and traveling. Their retirement years were mostly spent spending time with family. One of the activities they enjoyed was going out to dinner at various restaurants. Berniece passed away in May, 2014. Jim didn't dine at restaurants much after Berniece passed away but his daughter, Pam and daughter-in-law, Janet took turns making sure he had a home cooked meal several nights a week. His chair at the table may be empty now, but he will live on forever in our hearts. Jim is survived by his son Dan (Janet) Quest, his daughter, Pam (Pat) Kinsella, 9 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and a brother, Gene (Debbie) Quest of Torrington, Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his son Randy in 2005 and his wife, Berniece in 2014, and his parents, Gene and Elizabeth Quest.
