Obituary For Jane Borin

Jane Y. Borin, 91, Rapid City, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Westhills Village Health Care Facility. Jane was born February 27, 1921 in Academy, SD and she attended high school in Platte, where she was a champion oboe player in state competition. She graduated from Yankton College magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree. She was elected homecoming queen while in college.Jane served on the Staff Union Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL and was a staff member of the School of Engineering at Columbia University during their participation in the Manhattan Project. She was the regional representative for National Securities and Research Financial Service Company in New York City as well as a graduate of Cordon Bleu culinary school of London, England where she earned a chef certificate.Jane was a longtime volunteer for Rapid City Regional Hospital and a member of P.E.O. in Minneapolis and Rapid City. She was an excellent Bridge player and she traveled extensively with her husband, mostly to Western Europe.Jane is survived by her husband Leighton Borin, Rapid City; two brothers, Gordon Young, Sioux City, IA and Max Young, Yankton; her step-son, James Borin, Midland, MI; her step-daughter Kristi Zimmerman, Centennial, CO; five granddaughters and nine great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents.
