Obituary For Joanne Maxine Handley

Joanne Maxine (Thompson) Handley, 68, Rapid City, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2013 at Rapid City Regional Hospital after a short, courageous battle with cancer. She was born on June 15, 1944 to William and Cora Thompson in Rapid City.On September 3, 1962 she married Thomas Handley in Las Vegas, NV. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past September. From that union two daughters were born; Donna of Baltimore, MD and Deanna of Rapid City, SD. She also has a very special granddaughter, Kristen of Rapid City, SD and a precious great granddaughter, Kaleigh, also of Rapid City.Joanne worked for the Rapid City School District for 25 years, retiring in 2002 as Food Service Manager at West Middle School. She was a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliary.She is survived by her husband, daughters, granddaughters, two sisters, Adeline Johnson of Billings, MT and Cathy McDougall of Wyola, MT. Her parents, three brothers and five sisters preceded her in death.“When my journey here on earth ends don’t be sad, because I have had a fantastic trip. I feel no need for a funeral service and all its obligations. Just remember our time together, the love, laughter and sharing. Remember me with laughter. If you can only remember me with tears, don’t remember me at all. I love you all very much.”
