Obituary For John 'Jack' Welch
John (Jack) Anthony Welch, 88, Rapid City, was called to The House of our Lord on Wednesday November 11th 2015. John was born April 7th 1927 in Madison SD to John and Irma Welch. John attended High School in Madison SD and went to college for 2 years. He joined the United States Navy serving honorably during World War II in 1945-1946 while being stationed at Guam. He later went to work for the pipeline and Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. He moved to Rapid City in 1947 and dedicated many years at Tom’s Bar and Murphy’s Bar on Mt. Rushmore Road in Rapid City. In his later year prior to retirement, John worked for many area Rapid City hotels and lounges dedicating his efforts to serve his patrons. In his retirement he loved to spend his leisure time working around the house and being outside tending to yard work, his boat, his motorhome and many other things. John will be remembered for his dedicated love for his family and his love to tell stories about the many, many friends and acquaintances he made over the past 88 years. John is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary; his daughter, Deaun; his 3 sons, John, Patrick and Gerald of Rapid City, SD, his beloved granddaughter Jessica, and numerous other grand and great grandchildren; and his most beloved Rat Terrier Chipper. John is preceded in death by his parents John and Irma Welch.
