Obituary For John Raymond Kammerer
John Raymond Kammerer passed away on February 20, 2024, at Fountain Springs Healthcare Center in Rapid City, SD.
He was born on October 28, 1938, to Fred and Susan (Endres) Kammerer in Rapid City, SD. He graduated from Rapid City Cathedral High School in 1956 where he made many friends. He married Lee Eztler in 1980 and he enjoyed meeting up with former school mates regularly in these latter years. One of those groups was The Good Ol’ Boys. He served one year in the USAR and five years in the USAF; three of those years spent in Wiesbaden, Germany.
He was in the insurance business for thirty years, most of those years was spent with South Dakota AAA. He worked for RCC Western Store for fourteen years where he made each customer feel special. He took his school crossing guard duties for the Police Department very serious for eight years and then enjoyed volunteering at the Salvation Army Thrift Store. He never met a stranger, and he never forgot a face.
John is survived by his wife, Lee of forty four years; son, Mitch (DeAnna) Kammerer; a daughter, Desiree (Barry) Biggs ,CA; stepsons, Jeff (Tiffany) Webb, CO, Mike (Misty) Arnio, MT, ; three stepdaughters: Sandi Torok, SD, Sherri (Doug) Liston, MT and Shelly (Johnny) McGriff, SD; six grandchildren that he bragged about: Jessie Nichols, Joshua Dykhuizen, Jacqueline Webb, Jennifer Webb, Kenzie (Matt) Loucks, Jed (Brandy) Kammerer, July Kammerer; two surrogate grandchildren, Nick and Alicen Dupont, three great grandchildren: Adryan Doolittle, Tristan and Bennett Kammerer.

I enjoyed many years of good interesting conversations with John. I managed Boyds Drug where John was a great customer for years. He loved the Denver Broncos and discussing the games. And politics oh the talks and opinions we shared with each other. John loved telling stories of the old days and of The Kammerer Ranch. He was a kind man with a big smile and great attitude. I am going to miss you Uncle John! I wish I had something eloquent or more comforting words for all the family, however, my thoughts are truly with all of you at this time. Uncle John always looked so dapper and had a hint of great smelling cologne. The last words he said to my husband when we were at the reunion in 2022 was "Never take life for granted, enjoy every minute." My mom- Florence Maxson, before her death in 2005, travelled through South Dakota. Mostly she spent time with her wonderful brother Bill Etzler. She also enjoyed her conversations and visits with the Kammerer family- John and Leitha and their family. Condolences regarding John's passing to Leitha all the family.
