Obituary For June E. Rose

June E. Rose, 74, Rapid City, SD passed away Saturday, January 15, 2011 at home, surrounded by her loving friends and family, after a long courageous battle with cancer.June was born in O’Creek, South Dakota to her loving parents Elsie Evelyn (Lilly) and Earl Nicey Gordon on June 28, 1936. She was raised and grew up in the Carter and Winner, SD area with her siblings Francis, Brice, Earl, Dora May, Alice, Bobby and Jim. In 1952 she moved to Pierre, SD and attended high school and graduated from Riggs High School in 1954. While attending high school she met and fell in love with her beloved husband Kenneth R. Rose, they were married in Pierre in the fall of 1954. While living in the Pierre area, June and Ken were blessed with three children, Terry, Debby, and Kenny and in 1959 they moved to Rapid City, SD. After moving to Rapid City they were blessed with three more children, Tim, Sherry, and Bonny.June worked as a book keeper for her husband’s business, and was also very active with local organizations, including the Girl Scouts, Baseball, Soft Ball, Bowling, and the Eagles Club in Rapid City. June enjoyed life to its fullest and was a very witty, loving, caring and social individual. She enjoyed playing card games especially pinochle, were she was considered a master player. June was a loving caring mother to all who knew her, and while raising her children and grandchildren, she was known as “Mom” or “Granny” to everyone in the neighborhood. She especially enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to travel, read books, and enjoyed sports, family gatherings, race cars, drag racing, motorcycle rides and social gatherings. She will be missed by her beloved husband of 56 years, and her large family and numerous friends.June is survived by her husband, Kenneth Rose, Rapid City; her daughter Debra Rose Arnold and her children Kayla, Cal, and Cody Arnold, Rapid City; her son Kenny Rose and his wife Cindy and their children Kristy, Kenny, and Misty Rose, Rapid City; Tim Rose and his wife Anita and their children Lindsey, TJ, and Jesse Rose and Levi and Cody Wiesinger, Vale, SD; Sherry Rose and her children Vada Richards, and Shawna LeFebvre, Rapid City, SD; Bonny Rose and her significant other Marlin Davey and their daughter Madison Rose Davey, Rapid City; her granddaughter Miranda Myers, Sioux Falls, and her grandson Justin Myers, Kalispell, Mt.. She is also survived by her brother Earl Gordon, Laurel, Mt, and her sister Alice Serr, Butler, Ok, her beloved eight great grand children, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her many lifetime friends.June was preceded in death by her parents; her eldest daughter Teresa Kim Myers; her granddaughter, Carrie LaRue Rose; brothers Brice, Robert, and James Gordon; and her sisters Francis Alexander and Dora May Abbey.Junes family would like to give special thanks to the Rapid City Hospice, and to all those who have been so supportive with cards, prayers, food and phone calls, we hope you know how much it has meant to us and how much we have appreciated everything.
