Obituary For Kathleen McNamara

Kathleen McNamara, a devoted woman of faith, family, and quiet strength, entered her eternal home on June 4, 2026, at the age of 76. Kathleen was born on July 16, 1949, in Zeeland, North Dakota, to Adam and Barbara (Lacher) Tschosik. She grew up in a loving, lively household with two sisters and three brothers, all of whom shaped her early years with deep family bonds and shared values.

A proud graduate of Zeeland High School, Class of 1967, Kathleen began her adult life with determination and purpose. After graduation, she married Melvin Volk, and together they welcomed their son, Donovan, who remained one of the greatest joys of her life.

Kathleen’s early career included meaningful service with the State of South Dakota and the South Dakota School for the Blind, where her compassion and dedication touched many lives. Feeling called to expand her skills and serve others in a new way, she later attended Northern State University, where she studied accounting. Through hard work and perseverance, she became a Certified Public Accountant, a profession she carried with integrity across several states—including South Dakota, Nebraska, Florida, and Texas.

In 2002, Kathleen was blessed with a second chapter of love when she married Michael McNamara in Fargo, North Dakota. Their marriage was a partnership grounded in faith, companionship, and mutual devotion. Kathleen also embraced her role as stepmother to Bonnie, welcoming her with warmth and kindness.

One of Kathleen’s greatest passions was music. She found joy, peace, and spiritual expression at the piano, where she loved to play and create her own songs. Music was her prayer language—an offering of praise, comfort, and creativity.

Kathleen’s faith was the steady foundation of her life. She found comfort in prayer, strength in Scripture, and peace in knowing that God guided her steps. Her unwavering trust in the Lord was evident to all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Michael of Rapid City; her son, Donovan (Natali) Volk of Reno, NV; her stepdaughter, Bonnie (Jason) of Pierre; grandchildren, George, Ava, Anthony (Candace), Jazlyn, Marissa, and Aiden; great-grandchildren, Isla and Lennox; siblings, Sharon, Terry, and Dennis; several nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and friends who were blessed by her presence.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Barbara; siblings, Arlowine and Glenn; and her beloved canine companion, Einstein.

A funeral service celebrating Kathleen’s life and faith will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 10:30 AM at St. Therese Catholic Church in Rapid City, SD.

Interment will follow at a later date with a graveside service in Rock Valley, Iowa.

May her soul rest in the eternal peace of God’s embrace.
