Obituary For Kenneth R Swanson

Kenneth R. Swanson, 81, Rapid City, died Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Home following a long, courageous battle with cancer. Ken was born in Hettinger, ND on May 23, 1934 to Elof G. and Anna N. (Dalen) Swanson. He lived in Perkins County, SD and moved to Rapid City, graduating from Rapid City High School in 1953. Ken married Joan Bey in Rapid City on April 23, 1954, where they made their home. Ken was also a member of the South Dakota National Guard for many years, until medically discharged. Ken enjoyed being outside; sitting on his deck and visiting with neighbors, watching his beloved Denver Broncos and NASCAR, and spending time in his shed just tinkering. In the evenings, Ken enjoyed curling up in his recliner and watching his old western movies. Most of all, Ken loved his family and he was most happy when his daughters and his grandchildren and other family members were around the house. Ken is survived by 3 daughters, Cathy (Dave) Adams, Aurora, CO; Connie Olson, Rapid City; Laurie (Asher) White, Box Elder; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; son-in-law Joe Miller, Sioux Falls; sisters-in-law Marilyn Ferber, Rapid City; Alta Swanson, Wichita, KS and Shirley Bey, Deadwood; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Joan and his daughter Vicky Miller and two brothers, Norman and Art Swanson.
