Obituary For Kent R. Hammill

Kent R. Hammill, 85, Rapid City, died Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. He was born April 19, 1926 in Ree Heights, SD to Frank C. and Hazel V. (Beck) Hammill. He attended school in Ree Heights and graduated from Ree Heights High School. Kent entered the US Army Sept. 19, 1945, serving during WWII and was honorably discharged Dec. 9, 1946 as Sergeant. He married Lois M Morford on Dec. 29, 1948 in Miller. He moved to Rapid City where he worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for Caterpillar for 34 years. He married Marge Muehlbauer on July 1, 1990 in Rapid City. Kent was a member of the American Legion Post 22; Rushmore VFW Post 1273; Moose Lodge and the Open Bible Christian Center. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Marge Hammill, Rapid City; 2 sons, Robert J. (Donna) Hammill, Belle Fourche, Kent Lee (Donna) Hammill, Rapid City; a daughter, Peggy (Del) Martin, Jackson Hole, WY; step-son, Gary (D’Jonna) Muehlbauer, Rapid City; step-daughter Susan (Randy) Phipps, Rapid City; 15 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife Lois Hammill, grandson Jerry Hammill and his brother Bruce Hammill.
