Obituary For Laura 'Dee' DeWain

Laura “Dee” DeWain, 56, of Spearfish passed away peacefully on Monday, May 21 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Dee was born January 22, 1956 in Ironton, Ohio to Ernest and Mary Hutchinson. At age 11 the family moved to Lake Worth, Florida where she lived until 1997 when she and her family moved to Spearfish. Dee loved being a volunteer EMT with Spearfish Ambulance where she had many good friends. She was also a substitute teacher with Spearfish school district.Dee grew up in her family-owned upholstery business in Lake Worth, Florida where she became an extraordinary seamstress and, after moving to Spearfish, opened Dee’s Upholstery & Slipcovers. Dee was an active member of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and an avid supporter of the VFW. She was passionate about childhood literacy and loved seeing the faces of students “light up” when they learned new words. Survivors include the pride and joy of her life, her children, son, Robert Caswell of Las Vegas, NV, and daughter, Amanda DeWain of Spearfish, granddaughters Hailey Damuth and Olivia DeWain of Spearfish, brother, James (Helen) Hutchinson of Jupiter, FL, twin sister, Loura (Bob) LaFayette of Spearfish, nieces, Roni (Brandon) Ackerman and family of Hulett, WY, Krista (Kyle) Andrzejczak of Spearfish, Misty Wilson and family of Murfreesboro, TN, Gina Adams and family, Renee Morell, and Rickie Mills all of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, nephew Rob (Megan) LaFayette and family of Spearfish, and many, many others who knew her as “Aunt Dee.” Also happy to have shared in her life are Chris DeWain of Whitewood and Frank, Patti, and Jonathan DeWain of Miami, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents.
