Obituary For Lawrence 'Larry' Chester Rowley

Lawrence “Larry” Rowley, 83, of Rapid City, South Dakota went to his Heavenly home on January 22, 2026, at Avantara Nursing Home in Rapid City, South Dakota.

He was born in Hayden, Colorado on January 4, 1943 to Chester and Mae (Kagie) Rowley. He was the middle child to Donna (Rowley) Willits and Sharon (Rowley) Clapper. He provided me with many hours of stories from his childhood (he loved his time at his grandfather’s ranch). He is a man that went from living without electricity to building computers from scratch without training.

He met and married Leila Cary in Rangely Colorado in 1963. Together they had a daughter, Sara Rowley, in 1964.

He met and married Bonnie (Randell) Flynn in Dickinson North Dakota in 1980. He loved and was devoted to her until her death in 2024.

During his later years he made many beautiful quilts, jewelry, and rosaries.

Be good, do right, then go Home.

I met Larry when my mother was at Avantara nursing home, along with his wife Bonnie. Larry was a kind man & also interesting to talk to. He talked to me & my sister about quilting. He was so kind to give my sister a sewing machine as he knew she enjoyed making quilts. May he forever rest in peace.

Sara, my deepest sympathy to you for the loss of Larry. I met Larry at Avantara nursing facility, I enjoyed visiting with him and also was blessed with one of his beautiful necklaces. May your memories sustain you in this time of grief.
