Obituary For Lea Regina Winckler

Lea Regina Winckler, 100, Rapid City, a wonderful mother and grandmother, died Friday Jan. 20, 2012 at the SD Human Services Center in Yankton where she received excellent loving care for the past 5 ½ years. Lea R. Auch was born to John and Pauline (Mehrer) Auch on Nov. 27, 1911 at Lesterville, SD where she lived and attended school until her family moved to Harrold, SD settling on a new farm. She continued going to school and helping with the farm work. On April 24, 1929, she married Alvin E. Winckler in Harrold. To this marriage one child was born. They moved to Custer where they both found work. In 1944 Al was called to serve his country in the US Army. Lea and her son moved back to Harrold to be near family. She worked at a drugstore and grocery store during this time. Al was discharged in 1946 and in 1954 they moved to Lewistown, MT for employment. In 1971 retirement had arrived and they moved to Rapid City. Lea is survived by her son, Alvin A. Winckler, Rapid City; grandchildren, Betty (Mark) Hunsley, Spearfish; Patty (Paul) Bachman, Rosemount, MN; Alvin (DeeAnn) Winckler, Casper, WY; 8 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Lydia (Cliff) Thorn, Pierre; Theona Schimitz, Hutchinson, MN; her brother Alton Auch, Sioux Falls and sister-in-law, Marcella Auch, Sioux Falls. She is preceded in death by her husband Alvin, Feb. 27, 1990; daughter-in-law Bonnie; 3 sisters, 3 brothers, 2 sisters-in-law, 2 brothers-in-law and 2 infant siblings at birth.
