Obituary For Leo K. Jacobson

Leo Keith Jacobson died Friday, January 3rd at the hospice house in Rapid City. Leo was born August 31, 1938 at Blue Earth, MN to Clarence and Orva Walter Jacobson. He grew up in Beresford, SD and Custer, SD where he graduated from high school. In 1973 he was married to Gretchen “Pokey” Killinger in Hot Springs, SD.In 1969 he found his professional calling when he joined Southard Insurance Agency in Hot Springs. In 1975 the Jacobson family moved to Sturgis where he became a partner in Bear Butte Insurance and later founded Jacobson Insurance Agency. He retired from First Western Insurance in 2009. Never one to completely retire Leo and Pokey moved to Rapid City in 2010 where he was associated with Behrens Wilson Funeral Home .Always on the go, Leo spent many hours on the golf courses in the Black Hills and Arizona . He was a long time member of the board of directors of Boulder Canyon Country Club. With his unconventional golf swing he was easily spotted on the golf course. As fall arrived you could find him hunting birds with his best friend and a faithful canine companion. Walking his dogs, visiting with the neighbors, playing cribbage with his nephews or driving around town with his dogs along for company were pleasurable pass times in recent years.Leo dealt with his long illness as he dealt with life, with energy, perseverance and determination. Grateful for sharing his energetic life are his wife, Pokey, Rapid City; daughter Pam Jacobson, White Post, VA; daughter Tisha (Darren) Nichols, Gardner, KS; daughter Kara Jacobson-Kraft, Rapid City. Leo was a loving and proud grandpa to Heather and Brittany Miles and Blake and Taylor Nichols. He especially enjoyed showing Blake and Taylor his favorite places in the Black Hills and taking grandson Blake fishing, shooting and golfing. He is also survived by an aunt, two nephews Brandon and Dustin Jacobson, a niece, Susan Ruff, two great-grandchildren and several cousins.
