Obituary For Leona Lorine Weisser

Leona Lorine Weisser, 93, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in New Underwood. Leona was born on January 14, 1917 in Scotland, SD to Emil and Pauline (Berreth) Schweinforth. She married Emil Henry Weisser on September 5, 1937 in Blaha, SD. They remained married for 48 years until his passing in March 1985. Leona was the seventh child of ten and was also preceded in death by her parents and her beloved brothers and sisters; Art, Reinhold, Alton, Ida, Laura, Ben, Martha, Emma and baby Clara who died in infancy. Leona and Emil moved to Rapid City in 1958. She worked many various jobs in her time here in Rapid City including working the front desk and cleaning rooms at the South Town Motel which was once located on the corner of Saint Anne and Mount Rushmore Road where the Pioneer Bank and Trust now sits. She sold Avon and Fuller Brush for 17 years. Her best “known” position, she fed the crowds at Black Hills Speedway concession stands for 20 years. Many in Rapid City only knew her as “Grandma Nacho”. She is survived by many who feel blessed she somehow touched their lives, especially the wonderful staff at Good Samaritan Home. They will miss her smiles, big dimples and her shy shoulder shrugs. Leona’s family will be forever grateful for their kindness and loving care. The Hospice of the Hills also gave such wonderful care and personal attention she so deserved and the family appreciates all of the Hospice staff who touched our lives. But it is those closest to her that will miss her the most; three daughters, Darlene (Buck) Buchanan; Jean (Jerry) Bremer and Loretta (LeRoy) Konop; one son, LeRoy (Linda) Weisser; three granddaughters, Kelly (Marvin) Buchanan-Renner, Stacie (Dan) French, Holly O’Dell; five grandsons, Todd Weisser; Tim Weisser, Cory O’Dell, Reggie Osborne, Clint Osborne; four great-grandchildren, Alyssa Goeden(Troy Shamblen), Jason French(Datona Conrad), Rian French, Tayler McCarty and two great-great grandchildren, Carson French and Mackenzie Shamblen (unborn).
