Obituary For Liddie P. Matt

Liddie P. Matt, 98, died Saturday, October 20, 2007 at Morningstar Assisted Care Center. She was born April 9, 1909 on a farm in rural Meade County to Leon and Anna (Placek) Bren. She grew up on the family farm on Elk Creek and graduated from Rapid City High School in 1929. Liddie married Arthur Matt on February 18, 1931. They purchased a farm in O’wanka in 1941 where they remained for many years. She sold the farm in 1993 and moved to Rapid City. Liddie enjoyed crocheting, and raising her animals and gardening. For many years, Liddie cut and counted Campbell Soup labels for the Rapid Valley Elementary School. She thus became known as the school’s ‘Campbell Soup Granny’. Grateful for having shared her life are 2 daughters, Dorothy and husband Bill Jobgen, Kathryn and husband Ed McBride all of Rapid City; 6 grandchildren, Curt (Debbie) McBride, Anchorage, AK; Bret (Carla) McBride, Luanne (Keith) Miracle all of Rapid City; Guy (Amy) Jobgen, Piedmont; Wes (Tammy) Jobgen, Natalie (Bryan) Parks, all of Rapid City; 11 great grandchildren, Kari, Brandon, Kelsey, Jeremy, Kyle, Tyler, Duran, Cody, Megan, McKenna, Emma; 3 great great grandchildren, Aiden, Tristan, Canaan; 3 sisters, Martha King, Gladys Opstedahl and Dorothy Bren all of Rapid City. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur; son, Morris; granddaughter Cheryl McBride; 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
