Obituary For Lonnie Gene Evans

Lonnie Gene Evans, 74, Nemo, passed away Monday June 20, 2016 with his wife by his side. He was born on March 6, 1942 to Floyd and Charlotte Evans in Rapid City. In his younger years, he enjoyed racing cars, camping and fishing with friends and hunting season with Darrel Jones and others. Lonnie had various jobs throughout his career including: construction; Coca Cola bottling Company, the Dakota Café and Rapid Plumbing. Out of Union 698 he worked as a pipe fitter/welder and eventually came to the Rapid City School System as their boiler tech. Of all the different jobs, he said his best job was as a retiree. He met the love of his life, Elizabeth ‘Zibby’ Evans in 1959 and they were married on December 28, 1963. Lonnie moved up to his dream house ‘El Teepee’ in 1970, where they raised their three children; Ty, Tacy and Heidi. In retirement, he enjoyed time with his family, camping and fishing, cutting wood, tinkering in the shop and living in the Black Hills where he said ‘there is no place I would rather be”. He is survived by his loving wife, Zibby Evans, Nemo; his children, Ty (Diana) Evans, Piedmont; Tacy Kiecksee, Brookings and Heidi Evans, Sioux Falls; his grandchildren; Tylee Jo, Casey, Rachel, Brook, Kayla and Ava; his sister Darla Ferne (Don) Kachelhoffer and many nieces, nephews and extended family all of whom he loved very much.
