Obituary For Loren Kenner

Loren Howard Kenner, Rapid City, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the comfort of his own home on the morning of August 19th at the age of 88. He entered the world on May 26, 1928 to the joy of his parents Howard and Vera Kenner in Miller, SD. He spent childhood summers riding a train at the tender age of 6 with his brother to Miller to spend each summer with their grandmother Collins. After graduating from high school in 1946 he joined the US Navy and spent two years in Guam. Loren is a lifetime member of the VFW. Upon his return, he married his high school sweetheart Lila ‘Joy’ Hannant on October 9, 1948. They celebrated 68 years of marriage together. From this union came five children; four sons, Randell, Kimbell, Wendell, Bret and one daughter, Lori. Howard’s Body Shop was established in 1939 by his father, Howard. Loren joined his dad in the family business in 1948. His brother, Bob, joined them in 1955. After Howard retired, Loren and Bob continued on and worked side by side for 43 years. After retiring, the two brothers established a business called Kenner Brothers and restored antique cars at a shop in Rapid Valley. Loren enjoyed working in the extensive garden that was next to that shop. Loren and Joy were passionate about bowling and were on several leagues together. They made many friends at Meadowood Lanes. Loren and his brother Bob were avid fishermen, boating enthusiasts, motorcyclists and hunters. He shared his passions with his children and enjoyed many summers boating with his family at Angostura Reservoir. Many people will never forget the memorable ‘dynamic duo’ and the matching purple jet boats he and his brother had. You could always hear Loren’s laugh and whistle for miles. Loren and Bob enjoyed many miles riding their motorcycles together. With all the memories and time spent with each other, Loren will be greatly missed by his brother. Loren is survived by his wife, Joy, his four sons, Randell (Trisha) Kenner; Kimbell Kenner all of Rapid City; Wendell (Paula) Kenner; Bret (Vicki) Kenner, all Mexico, NY; his daughter, Lori Wessel, Rapid City; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; his brother Bob Kenner and sister-in-law Polly Binegar, both of Rapid City. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Bob Wessel and sister-in-law Pat Kenner.
