Obituary For Lyle Lowe
Lyle Lowe, 68, Rapid City, died Monday, May 17, 2010 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Lyle was born on September 4th, 1941 in Watertown, SD to Ralph & Eileen Lowe. He graduated from high school in Flandreau, SD in 1959 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy for three years serving on the U.S.S. Beale. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he went on to attend the University of California – Humboldt and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Management in 1971. Upon returning home, he gained employment with the State of South Dakota, Game, Fish & Parks department as a District Forester. This later transitioned to the Division of Forestry where he was acting State Forester for a couple years & finished his career with the Wildland Fire Suppression Division as Rural Fire Assistance Specialist. He worked for the State for 36 years & retired in January of 2009, but has continued to assist the Department when needed. He was incredibly passionate about the work he did for the State of SD and was very thankful for the many friends he met throughout his career. He lived in several towns in SD over his lifetime including Gettysburg, Lead, Mitchell, Pierre, Rapid City, Sioux Falls, Springfield, & Valley Springs. He also lived in Marshall, MN; Osage, IA; McKinleyville, CA & San Pedro, CA.Lyle had many interests including Nascar racing, NFL & ordering a variety of items on QVC. He also had several hobbies such as collecting coins, model cars, and Smoky Bear memorabilia he received while working for the Division of Forestry. He enjoyed the outdoors a great deal and when his kids were young he liked to spend time with them at the river, had a garden full of vegetables every year, was an avid hunter for the majority of his life & had several other interests and hobbies throughout his life. Survivors include his three children, Logan (Laura) Lowe, Rapid City, Leslie Lowe, Pierre and Loren Lowe, Pierre; five grandchildren, Caleb, Pierre, & Delia, Daphnie, Daisy & Doris, Rapid City; two sisters, Kathleen Mentele, Sioux Falls & Margaret Trode, Custer; a niece, Susan (Neil) Anderson, Belgrade, MT; two nephews Brett Lowe, Portland, OR & Eric Mentele (Lisa), Sioux Falls; and two great nephews and a great niece.
