Obituary For Mae Mills
Mae Mills, 90, Goddard KS and formerly of Rapid City went peacefully to be with Jesus on March 27, 2011. Mae Erickson Mills was born April 12, 1920, in Ft. Pierre, SD, to Erick August and Ingeborg Erickson, the 8th of 12 children. She attended grade school at Orton Flats, SD and then high school living with an older sister at Miller High School, Pierre High School, Sturgis High School and graduated from Piedmont High School in 1938. She then attended Green's Beauty School in Rapid City and worked as a beautician in Lead, SD. On September 25, 1940, she married Hugh Mills. They made their home in Rapid City where Hugh was employed as general manager of Mills Drug Stores. Mae was a stay-at-home Mom for their five children. Hugh passed away September.28, 1997. Mae accepted Jesus as her personal Saviour when she was 28 years old. She became an active member of the Wesleyan Church where she taught a girls' Sunday School Class for many years. Later, Mae was active in Christian Women's Club serving in various capacities. She led several Friendship Bible Coffees in Rapid City and traveled to a number of states with CWC speakers. Mae enjoyed playing Scrabble and Dominoes, growing roses, serving tea to friends and neighbors, reading her Bible, memorizing Scripture verses, and talking to friends and family on the phone. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family. In early February, 2011, Mae went to Goddard, KS to stay with Rick and Vickie Kilmer in their home. Vickie was singing "What A Day That Will Be, When My Jesus I Shall See" as her mother crossed to her heavenly mansion. Mae is survived by her five children: Kay (Roger) Hobbie, rural Flandreau, SD; Jack (Jeannine) Mills, Sioux Falls, SD; Dean (Peggy) Mills, Bartlesville, OK; Huey Mills; and Vickie (Rick) Kilmer, Goddard, KS; 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, 1 brother, Raymond (Maureen) Erickson, Fremont, CA; 1 sister, Agnes Nichols, Sacramento, CA; many nieces and nephews; close friends, Paulene Purington and Ivan and Diane Englin, plus countless other friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 5 brothers, 4 sisters and 1 granddaughter.
