Obituary For Mari Etta Fowler

Mari Etta Fowler, 89, of Rapid City died at home after a long illness. She was born second of 11 children to George J. Werner and Sadie Mae Norbeck in Alliance, Nebraska, on June 7, 1918, and was raised on her parent’s homestead near Spotted Horse, Wyoming. She moved to Rapid City in 1950, where she met her husband James of 55 years while working as a waitress at the Canyon Lake Club. Her first occupation was as a schoolteacher in Spotted Horse, Wyoming, where she also ran the local café and store with her brother and sister, Bub and Frances. She was a long time Avon lady in Rapid City. She started with them when they were known as the California Perfume Company. She was an avid quilter and a lifetime member of the Black Hills Quilters Guild. She enjoyed spending time with and entertaining her family and friends. She is survived by her husband James (Jim) Fowler; her children, Richard Roberts (Sonja) of Sheridan, Wyoming; Marty Fowler (Cindy) of Rapid City; and Janette Tysdal (Bill) of Rapid City; grandchildren, Michael Roberts, John Roberts, Tanya Nelsen, Alysia Willmes, Tonielle Kelly, and Jack Fowler, 7 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, four sisters, and her granddaughter, Mona Roberts Moore.
