Marie Winters, 96, Rapid City, SD, died Monday, June 17, 2013 in a Rapid City nursing home. Marie was born May 14, 1917 at Raleigh, ND, the daughter of Romunus and Bertha Blotsky. She grew up and attended school south of Raleigh where her family farmed. She married John Winters on June 2, 1938. It was a double wedding that day when brother (Ray) married her soon to be husband's sister (Agnes). John and Marie farmed for a few years and later moved to Raleigh, ND where John worked on the railroad. In 1944 John and Marie moved to McIntosh, SD. John worked a variety of jobs - Marie spent her days working at home - keeping busy with the children and house work. When her husband died in 1967 she was suddenly faced with having to find work outside the home. She worked a variety of jobs during this time. In 1974 Marie moved to Mobridge, SD and in 1978 Marie moved to Rapid City, SD to be close to her children - who at that time all resided there. Marie lived alone until 2006 when, due to health problems she moved into a local nursing home where she lived until her death. She is survived by three children - Ray Winters, Mary Jane Dillman and Shelly Schmierer (Joel) all of Rapid City; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren and sister Emma Harmel, EI Cajon, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband John, son Leo, daughter Darlene, two daughters-in-law Catherine and Josephine and sons-in-law Richard Hare and Tim Dillman, Sr. She was also preceded in death by three grandchildren Mary Dillman, Travis Dillman and Tim Dillman, Jr. and six brothers and 3 sisters.
