Obituary For Marilyn Jean Brumbaugh

Marilyn Jean Brumbaugh, 92, died May 4, 2026, in the arms of her daughter at home. She was born on January 19, 1934, in Falkirk, North Dakota, daughter of Edward E. Johnson Jr. and Elsie Johnson (Melech). In 1951 Marilyn’s family moved to Rapid City where she graduated high school, class of 1952. Prior to going to college, she worked at the local hospital as a candy striper and helped take care of her younger sister due to her mother’s health issues.

She went on to graduate as a Registered Nurse in 1956 from Bismark Hospital School of Nursing. She began her long beloved 42-year nursing career at Providence Hospital in Oakland California in the maternity ward for one year then moved to Concord Community Hospital until 1964. She returned to Rapid City and worked at Saint John’s hospital until moving to Gardner, Oregon in 1969. Where she worked at Reedsport Hospital, Oregon until 1976. Upon her return to Rapid City, she was employed at Rapid City Medical Center until her retirement in 1998.

Marilyn met her late husband William Brumbaugh on a blind date, and they married on February 14,1979. They remained married for 42 years for the rest of his natural life. They loved dancing and were members of the local Lions and Moose club. She had many hobbies quilting, crocheting and collectables, especially cookie jars.

She is proceeded in death by her son David Edward White her Husband William George Brumbaugh, grandson Tyler Montgomery, great grandson Nicholas White, brothers Darrol and David Johnson, sisters Hope Alban and Darlene Merkel.

She is survived by her sister Naomi Johnson and children Charles White, Tammy Lindquist, Mary White, Kennth McCourry Jr., Lisa and Michael White. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She will be truly missed.

    I remember going to your house and seeing all the cabbage patch kids and all the cookie jars when I was little and I loved all the cookies you would have for me and my brothers and all the marshmallows .     Marilyn was the coolest aunt. Her and I would go thriftstoring and build things. I always loved that if she got mad at something she would just laugh. May she be in Heaven now with the others that left before her 🙏

    Mim! She was such a special warm hearted woman. Always doing and giving her whole life. Never turning anyone away. She was caring, loved to give. Whether it's an old lamp from 1976 or a quilt she would make. She truly enjoyed crafts sewing and collecting. Remembering sitting around the kitchen table, talking and laughing about the years that pasted. I truly missed those days with her. I'll never forget you Mim. You meant more to me than you'll ever know.
