Obituary For Martha Dolores Dolores Norman
Dolores Norman, nee Paccione, was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 21, 1922 to Italian immigrants Joseph and Mary Paccione. She met the love of her life, Albert W. Norman, on the Staten Island Ferry on a windy day in 1941. Albert was stationed in nearby Fort Dix, about to ship out for the battles in North Africa, and was in New York City for the day. When Dolores’ hat blew off in the wind, he caught it and gallantly returned it to her, and the rest was history. After corresponding through the war, Albert returned to the U.S. and married his bride in Brooklyn on July 7, 1945. They then moved to his hometown of Rapid City, where they raised six children. Albert preceded Dolores in death in January of 1993. Their youngest son, Joseph, died in 2009. Dolores is survived by a sister and brother in Brooklyn, Dorothy and Alfred, and by five children: Mike Norman of Lexington, Kentucky; Marie Steele of Milford, Michigan; Patrick Norman of Honolulu, Hawaii; Gloria Verret of Los Angeles, California; and Ted Norman of Rapid City. She also is survived by six grandchildren (Angela Bolen, Greg Hoeft, Michael Norman, Jasmine Verret, Tony Norman, Shelly Norman), seven great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and friends. Dolores lived at Echo Ridge for the past 9 years. For 67 years in Rapid City she was a member of the Cathedral and loved her weekly appointments at the Black Hills Beauty School.
