Obituary For Martin J. Longhenry

Martin John Longhenry, 68, Rapid City, SD died Sunday April 22, 2007 at Ft. Meade VA Medical Center. Martin was born June 25, 1938 in Boone, IA to Walter E. and Ruth M. (Vetter) Longhenry. He grew up in Boone, graduating from Boone High School. He also attended the University of South Dakota graduating with a Bachelors Degree and also a Masters Degree. He worked as a Juvenile Probation Officer in Sioux City, IA and for the past 25 years with Douglas and Rapid City Public Schools as a custodian, retiring in 2000. Martin entered the US Air Force Jan. 27, 1961 serving during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged Jan. 26, 1965. Martin enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, working around the house and yard and attending children’s activities. Martin is survived by his wife Carryn L. Longhenry, Rapid City, 2 daughters, Krystol R. and husband Scott Frerking, Waterloo, IA; Rebecca A. Longhenry, Rapid City; 1 son Christopher M. Longhenry, Brookings; 1 grandson; 4 sisters, Mabel and husband Jack Mantel, Orange City, IA; Carolyn and husband Bill McCall, Ames, IA; Anna Nelson and husband Larry Boehm, Omaha, NE; Bess and husband Jim Hobson, Las Cruces, NM and 1 brother, Lewis and wife Donna Longhenry, Solvang, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Edward Longhenry.
