Obituary For Mary A Hayward

Mary A. Hayward, 94, passed away on December 13, 2013 in New Underwood, South Dakota just 3 days short of her 95th birthday. She was born December 16, 1918 to John and Stella Brown in Vian, Oklahoma, one of 9 children. She married James E. Hayward on September 27, 1940 in Monroe, Louisiana. Living and working there during the next 12 years, they had 2 children, James and Edward. After two moves during the next 9 years, 1961 found them settling in Chattanooga, Tennessee and opening the first of several nut & bolt fastener businesses. They opened, ran, and sold several nut & bolt businesses during their first 14 years there before starting Hayward Bolt & Specialty Company which the family ran for the next 33 years. They were quite proud of their company and worked hard building and expanding it over the first two decades. Mary was their office manager until selling the business and finally retiring in 2008 at age 89. She was preceded in death by her parents, John & Stella, 7 siblings, her husband, James, and their younger son, Edward. She is survived by her other son, James E. Hayward, Jr. of Rapid City, South Dakota, one sister, Stella Ely of Memphis, Tennessee, 3 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
