Obituary For Merigold E. 'Dode' Herrin
Merigold Evelyn ‘Dode’ Herrin, 94, Hill City died Tuesday May 26, 2009 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. She was born January 30, 1915 to Charles and Isabel (Cobb) Brophy at the home where she lived her entire life. She was the last of eleven children. Merigold married Vernon C. Herrin March 4, 1936, in Sturgis. They met while Vernon was stationed at Horsethief Lake with the CCC’s. They lived on the family ranch, taking care of Merigold’s mother until her death in 1952. They continued to live there together until Vernon’s death in 1994. Merigold stayed in the home until her death at 94. She is survived by 2 daughters, Joyce (Glenn) Bintliff and Barb (Jerry) Lee, all of Hill City; 5 grandchildren, Glenn D. (Michelle) Bintliff and family, Vernon (Carmen) Bintliff and daughter; Timothy A. (Yvonne) Bintliff and family, all of Hill City; Kim (Scott) Fisher and family, Newcastle, WY; Greg Lee and Tony Tolin, Lakewood, CO; 16 great grandchildren; 19 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law Ruth Brophy, Black Hawk and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 10 siblings, her husband Vernon and one great great grandchild, Alleya Bintliff.
