Obituary For Michael Philip Anderson

Michael “Mike” Anderson, 69, of Rapid City, South Dakota, passed away on April 23, 2026, in Rapid City.

Mike was born on June 15, 1956, in Rapid City, South Dakota, to Sylvester and Phyllis Anderson. He graduated from Rapid City Central High School and, at the age of 17, began working in the family business, Anderson Heating and Air Conditioning. Through dedication and hard work, Mike eventually took over the business, where he spent 52 years building a legacy of service and craftsmanship in the community.

During this time, Mike met the love of his life, Kimberly (Mortensen) Anderson. The two were married on May 25, 1990, and shared many happy years together.

Mike is survived by his wife, Kim Anderson; his daughter, Courtney Justice (Keenan Justice) of Rapid City; his son, Derek Anderson of Salt Lake City, Utah; and his beloved grandchildren, Emmy and Cooper.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Phyllis Anderson.

Mike had a deep passion for movies and was a walking encyclopedia of film knowledge. He was always ready with a quote, a fun fact, or a recommendation, and he loved sharing that passion with others. He also enjoyed working with his hands, constantly updating and tinkering around his home. To Mike, there was no problem that couldn’t be solved with a little patience and determination.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

I knew Mike slightly in high school but I had the opportunity to become friends with him years later in our work lives. I worked for a company that sold HVAC equipment and Mike and Andy were among our very best customers. I always enjoyed it when they came in to pick up materials because they had the best stories about their experiences out in the community, always told in their unique low key manner. Mike was a genuinely nice person and I know from our many conversations that he loved and was very proud of his family.
