Obituary For Monte R. Madison

Monte Madison, 69, of Rapid City, South Dakota, passed away on January 31, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family.

Monte was born December 10, 1954, in Rapid City, South Dakota to Stanley and Marilynn (Hayes) Madison. He attended Doty School, West Junior High and Stevens High School. After graduation, he met the love of his life, Rita Richardson and they married December 20, 1975. Their union was blessed with three daughters; Andrea, Bryana and Kaley.

Monte worked as a carpenter, building and designing residential homes in the area. His favorite build was the home in which he raised his family. He also worked at the Civic Center as a Sound Engineer and rigger for over 30 years. Monte’s passion was music. He played in many of the top area bands which included Straw Dogs, Ivory, Ambush, Madison Avenue, and the Abbey Road Tribute Band. His love of music led him to create his own sound company, Star Mountain Recording Studios and then the Madison Sound Production Company.

In addition, Monte loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He made it his personal mission to share that joyous relationship with everyone. It is a source of great comfort to his loving family and friends, knowing that he is now enjoying the presence of his Lord face to face.

Monte is survived by his wife Rita, daughters Andrea, Bryana and Kaley, eight grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, a brother, Michael Madison, and a sister, Mavis Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be given to Cornerstone Rescue Mission.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the wonderful team at Stillwater Hospice and also to Dr. Petereit. They are also very grateful for the outpouring of love and support from our church family and friends.

It's funny how a name can trigger a sweet memory from youth. In the late 60's, I lived on Schroeder Road and was a kindergarten student at Jefferson School. Country kids were frequently bussed into town. Our driver was an elderly driver nicknamed "Rosie" Rosie was a real miracle worker navigating those windy, icy unplowed roads. At any rate, I had long hair. Each day when Monte went by my seat on the bus, he gently tugged my braids and said, "Beep! Beep!" I remember thinking he was probably a high school boy because he seemed so old. Although a few years later we moved into town, I am quite familiar with the Madison legacy in that area. Beep! Beep! to you Monte. Thanks for the memories. Prayers to the family. - Posted by Anonymous on February 2, 2024

Monte was a sweet, wonderful man who loved Rita, his girls and grandchildren. He especially loved the lord and had a profound impact on me when I called years ago to talk to Rita. She wasn't home yet, so we talked for a few minutes before she got home. I was in a bad place emotionally and started to cry when he asked how I was. He then asked me if I had taken Jesus Christ as my lord and savior. I'd always considered myself a Christian but wasn't trusting God. His question prompted me to really think about my Christianity and I will never forget that. I loved his sense of humor and appreciated his many talents. I wish I could have witnessed the musical ones, but maybe one day when we all meet again. My thoughts & prayers go out to all of the Madison family and I hope his good memories and Gods grace will sustain you all. Love, Kim Douthitt - Posted by Kim Douthitt on February 3, 2024

Monte touched many lives through his music, kindness, and quick wit. All of us on stage at the fairgrounds felt we made a real and genuine friend while Monte and his crew ran sound. He will be missed. He lived his life fully, with happiness, ambition, discipline, grace, and kindness. Our prayers and thoughts are with his wife and daughters at this difficult time. - Posted by Johnny Sundby on February 4, 2024

Prayers and condolences to Monte's family. I had the pleasure to work with Monte at the South Dakota State Fair on several occasions. He know how to make the sound professional. Our musicians were pleased with the work that he did. This came as a surprise but Cancer is that way. May the Lord wrap all of you in his arms and give you comfort during this difficult time. I have such great memories of Monte, going back to our junior year at Stevens. He grew up on his family's ranch near Nemo and I got my first taste of the ranching life. Their ranch had real animals, Monte had daily chores, sawdust heat and they had a piano. Monte showed me his passion for All-things Paul McCartney. I remember him playing "Maybe I'm Amazed" note-for-note, obviously the roots of his tribute band "Abbey Road". I don't think Monte had any formal training but he could play like he had. I was in awe. After High School, we didn't connect much until our kids and their kids got older and we'd see each other at school events, or see him on stage. He'd always tease me for not sticking with the guitar but it was clear who was the Natural talent between us. Monte was always the upbeat, fun-loving guy and I'm sorry he's gone so early. I remember seeing a post he or his family had made several years ago to facebook, family picture of him, Rita the 3 girls. I wrote back, "Monte you have been blessed so much, beautiful family. God Bless you". Well, I say it again Monte, you're a winner in every way and you've been blessed so much. Thank you for trying to make me think I got you in the music business, truth is it was your calling. We are out of town all this week and will miss the service. Monte, leaves a legacy of joy and passion for sharing the gospel of Jesus through music and song, and sound. He always greeted me with a hi Cindy, and a hug and enthusiasm & encouragement to keep doing what you do best, and that's definitely what he did do too! Thank you doesn't seem like enough for all the times he was there for me and all of my family. But I do know where he's at now, & he & Blair McNair I'm sure are working on the "big sound booth" in Heaven and making sure everything's perfect!!🤩🙌🏼 I think we'll be together sooner than we can even imagine so let's rejoice and keep sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ, in all we do.✝️ Love you, Rita and family. Hope we can talk and hug soon!🤗♥️🙌🏼 - Posted by Cindy Grenz-Guerdet & Greg Guerdet on February 6, 2024

Dear ones, my brother Eddie Phillips and I went to school at Doty school with Monte and Mike and Mavis. Eddie said, when I told him, that Monte was his best friend in school. We were so saddened to here of his passing, but Praise the lord we will see him again one fine day. Keeping your family in our prayers. - Posted by Jeanne Phillips Tauck on February 9, 2024

To Rita, and family. I was shocked to read about Monte's passing. We hadn't been in touch for decades. However I always liked and admired his humor, His drive, honestly, and approachability to all. So sad, but. So happy that he is in paradise. I'm praying for you and your family that God will comfort you in the days ahead. Kenny Uhrig - Posted by Kenny Uhrig on February 12, 2024
