Obituary For Myron E. Carlson

Myron E. Carlson, 70, Hill City, died Wednesday April 5, 2006 at his residence.Myron was born August 1, 1935 to Oscar and Gladys (Labahn) Carlson in Burke, SD. He graduated from Burke High School in 1953.After graduation, he moved to Rapid City to be with his family. He worked construction until entering the US Army on April 4, 1958 and was honorably discharged March 30, 1960.On Nov. 13, 1960 he married Betty Jackson Phipps in Rapid City. They moved to Mobridge where he worked as a bartender. In 1963, they returned to Rapid City. Myron owned and operated the toy store in Hill City from 1965 to 1968. He then went to work for the city of Hill City managing the liquor store for 4 years. He later worked for Barber Transportation in Rapid City for 11 years and then Summit Construction until his retirement in 1998.Myron was a former member of the Moose Club and enjoyed woodworking.He is survived by his wife, Betty Carlson, Hill City; 2 daughters, Vicki Phipps, Sioux Falls; Toni and husband Les Madsen, Hot Springs; 2 sons, Mike and wife Kim Carlson, Spearfish; Steve and wife Molly Carlson, Phoenix, AZ; 6 grandchildren; brother, Dean Carlson, Rapid City; sister, Phyllis Mire, Trabuco Canyon, California and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 1 son, Richard Phipps, May 10, 1980; 2 brothers Dale and Richard Carlson and his parents.A memorial has been established.
