Obituary For Nancy Derrickson
Nancy M. (Thompson) Mason Derrickson, 86, Hot Springs, peacefully passed away surrounded by family Monday, March 13, 2017 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Nancy was born January 18, 1931 in Estelline, SD to Murel and Adelaide (Leonard) Thompson. She graduated from Spearfish Teaching College where she met and married Stan Mason from Highmore, SD. To this union, four children were born, Dan, Candice ‘Dee Dee’, Tammy and Rob.The family lived in various cities before settling in Hot Springs, SD where they operated a family owned plumbing and contracting business for 40 years. Nancy was active in the community working at a fabric store and the local library. She was also a member of the Business Professional Women Society. Stan passed away in 1994. Nancy remained in Hot Springs where she enjoyed gardening, reading, decorating and spending time with her growing number of grandchildren.She met JD Derrickson and they married July 1, 2000. They lived in the country with their dogs, Bo and Backus until moving to town in 2001. She was profoundly saddened by the death of her son, Dan.Nancy and JD traveled the country visiting family members. They also greatly enjoyed estate sales, antiquing, listening to music, seeing plays and taking in the beautiful Black Hills. For the last couple of years, Nancy and JD resided at the Pine Hills Retirement Community where they were cared for by the loving staff.Nancy is survived by her husband, JD Derrickson, Hot Springs; 3 children, Candy (Geno) Morelli, Shoreview, MN, Tammy (Steve) White, Buffalo Gap, Rob (Margrethe) Mason, Hot Springs; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 2 step-children, Christine (Roland) Wiklund, NE, Kim (David) Robbins, TN; 3 siblings, Dan (Norma) Thompson, CA, Shari (Ken) Schuett, TX, Carmen (Bruce-deceased) Edwards, TX. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Stan Mason and son Dan Mason.
