Obituary For Opal Marie Splittstoesser

Opal Marie (Buzbee) Splittstoesser, 92, Rapid City, died Monday April 7, 2014 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. She was born October 22, 1921 in Farmingdale to Bruce and Emma (Barkl) Buzbee and she grew up in the Rapid City area. Opal graduated from Rapid City High School in 1939 and married Allen R. Gunkel in Chadron, NE on Oct 18, 1940. Allen was killed in WWII. She married Norman Splittstoesser in Hope, ND on Feb 24, 1947. She loved her cats and they will be going with her to the other side. She rode snowmobiles and 4 wheelers from her cabin at Deerfield and enjoyed family gatherings. Opal is survived by her sons, Norman Splittstoesser; David Gunkel; Richard and Michael Splittstoesser; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and her brother Budd Buzbee. She is preceded in death by her husband Norman and her sister Florence Huntington.
