Obituary For Otto Melvin Dockter, Jr.
Otto Melvin Dockter, JR 72, of Rapid City, South Dakota son of Otto Sr. and Emma Dockter, passed away in his home on August 17th, 2017. He was surrounded by the love of his life of 47 years and many other loved ones after a long battle with cancer. He was the oldest of five children, born November 13, 1944. He attended public schools in McLaughlin, SD. At an early age he was guided by his father as a helping hand on the family farm. His love of fishing and hunting was also a major part of his life. There wasn\'t a time he couldn\'t entertain with a good story of the ones that got away.
Otto graduated from McLaughlin High School in 1962 and then attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD. After attending College, he enlisted into the US Air Force in 1965 as an Electrical Digital Computer Repairman, and was honorably discharged in 1968. At that time, he began his long-life career with Control Data Corporation in Aberdeen, SD. Once Control Data merged with Seagate Technologies, he moved his family to Apply Valley MN, and continued his career, experiencing several different countries around the world, retiring in 2004.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy Winiecki on August 8, 1970 in New Brighton, MN.
Otto’s life will forever be cherished as a hard-working man, who provided for his family. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of 47 years, Children; Aimee Heiser (Kirk Branch) of New Braunfels TX., Paul Dockter of Rapid City, SD, Steve Dockter (Amanda Pierson), Andrea Knoll (Todd), Brian Dockter (Jessica) all of Aberdeen, SD and LCPL Ter Dockter of Yuma, AZ. Grandchildren; Julie and Joshua Heiser, New Braunfels, TX, Jocelyn and Corrine Dockter, Aberdeen, SD, Easton and Maci Knoll, Aberdeen, SD and Aubrey Dockter, Aberdeen, SD. Three sisters; Judy Rosemore (Eldridge, ND), Shirley Pahl (Jamestown, ND), Jane Ohlde (Aberdeen, SD), and one brother Andy Dockter, (Mobridge, SD). Otto is preceded in death by his parents Otto and Emma.
In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to your local Veteran\'s organization.
The family of Otto Melvin Dockter, JR would like to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Ebbert, VA Clinic Surgis SD, Rapid City Regional Hospital and Hospice of The Hills and the many volunteers that have guided the family along the way. The immediate family would also like to thank family and friends for all the love, support and generosity for the last several months.
