Obituary For Patricia Jane Holso

Our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Patricia (Pat) Jane Holso, passed away peacefully on September 8, at the age 77 in Rapid City, SD. She bravely battled Alzheimer’s for 13 years. Although Alzheimer’s stole her speech and her mobility, it didn’t steal our mom/grandma. In our everyday interactions, we saw glimpses of the woman who raised three children, loved five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In her heart, happiness swelled when we saw one another, laughed at stories of old and listened intently to news of our day.

Pat was born August 9, 1948, in Burwell, Nebraska to LaVern and Alice (Bartos) Zlomke. Pat was the only girl of five children, which included her brothers: Dennis, Darrell, Mike & Leland.

She lived most of her childhood in Wyoming, living along the Burlington Northern Railroad line as her daddy was a Depot Agent. Growing up Pat enjoyed fishing trips with her family and hanging out with her cousins at the Nebraska farm.

While attending Upton High School, she participated in choir, band and pep squad. After graduating in 1966, she pursued her dream of becoming a nurse by going to Nursing School in Rapid City. In 1967, she paused in becoming an RN, when she married and started a family. After raising her children, she attended the University of South Dakota and in 1997 became a certified Registered Nurse.

Pat loved taking care of people and took pride in helping others and being a selfless caregiver to her patients at Rapid City Regional Hospital. She enjoyed spending time with her family and making memories. She enjoyed going for walks, bowling, golfing, attending church and watching NCIS. She enjoyed her coffee strong, her iced tea with extra ice and her peach yogurts. She enjoyed shopping and collecting new pieces for her Christmas village set. She enjoyed holiday traditions and attending her grandchildren’s events.

Pat shared a life with her children Candi Foltz-Hall, LeAnn Holso and Richard (Angie) Holso; grandchildren: Trinda (Marvin) Carroll, Tyler Foltz, Hailey Holso, Taylor Hall, and Walt Holso; great grandchildren: Grayson Carroll and Brooklyn Holso; brothers: Darrell, Mike and Leland and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lavern and Alice, and her brother, Dennis.

In lieu of flowers, Tribute Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Pat’s Honor.
