Obituary For Quintin Sulzle
Quintin Clarence Sulzle (86), was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, July 26, 2016. Quintin was born to George and Elsie Martha (Siewert) Sulzle on January 12, 1930 on a farm near Akaska, SD. He became a child of God through baptism on February 16, 1930 at Zion Lutheran Church in Akaska. Quintin was confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in May 1943. Quintin attended the first eight grades in Akaska. He left school to assist on the family farm. He was united in marriage to Helen Louise Tucker on August 11, 1951. Seven children were born to this union: Paul Sulzle, Vermillion, SD; Colette (Mark) Zarling, New Ulm, MN; Sylvia (Kirby) Chapman, Bison, SD; Brenda (Dave) Jung, Denton, NE; Mark (Jeanne) Sulzle, York, NE; Cheryl (Steele) Medved, Kingman, AZ; Julie (Tony) Burckhard, Aberdeen, SD. He served his country during the Korean Conflict from November 9, 1951 through August 10, 1953. Following an honorable discharge, he enrolled in the North Dakota School of Forestry in Bottineau, ND. This was quite an accomplishment since he had not attended High School and had to pass college entrance exams to qualify. He received an associate degree in Forestry in 1956. While attending school in Bottineau he was on the College Boxing Team. He then transferred to the University of Wyoming where he graduated with a degree in Range Management in 1958. His career with the Bureau of Indian Affairs began in 1958. He thoroughly enjoyed working with ranchers at the following places: Kayenta, AZ May 1958 – August 1961; Lame Deer MT August 1961 – August 1966; Zuni, NM August 1966 - August 1968; Pine Ridge, SD August 1968 – September 1972; and the Aberdeen, SD Area Office September 1972 until his retirement in 1982. Following retirement Quintin continued to do some range consulting and also raised cattle. In 1997 Quintin & Helen sold their log home in Aberdeen and moved to Hill City, SD where they built a second log home, their dream home. Quintin was an active public servant. He served on the Public School Board in Kayenta, AZ; as President of the Town Board in Westport, SD; on the church councils of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Batesland, SD and Trinity Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, SD; on the Board of Education of Trinity Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, SD and Great Plains Lutheran High School in Watertown, SD; on the Board of Directors for the Adjustment Training Center in Aberdeen, SD and The American Society for Range Management South Dakota section. He coached Little League, Teener, and American Legion baseball as well as girls’ softball. Quintin was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers (Ronnie, Elton, and Wayne), his sister Erna Corson, and granddaughter Gayle Sulzle. Quintin is survived by his wife of 64 years and 11 months and 15 days, 2 sons and 5 daughters, 33 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, one brother Merlyn Sulzle, 2 sisters, Sharon Marsh and Sarah Sheldon, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.Quintin was a man of strong, steadfast faith and integrity who left a great legacy for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Knowing that Jesus is with us makes us all content and at peace. We take hope in the resurrection and have the assurance he now has eternal peace in heaven!
