Obituary For Rennie Dale Grover

Rennie Dale Grover, age 73, of Rapid City, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, on a beautiful sunny spring morning. He died at home with his wife Karen near his side after a one-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Rennie was born in Portland, Oregon, on April 25, 1938, to Henry and Kathryn (Pasko) Grover. He was raised in Portland and graduated from Franklin High School. In 1956, Rennie married Alice Crosswhite and they had three daughters: Twyla (1957), Kelly (1959) and Tracie (1961). Rennie and Alice divorced, and Rennie later married Karen (Amundson) Strand on May 8, 1970, in Oregon. Rennie and Karen had a son, David, in June 1972, and the family moved to Karen’s home town of Rapid City, SD, in December 1972. Daughter Christine was born in August 1976. After working as an office equipment repairman for several years, Rennie went to work for Sears in 1975, where he worked as an appliance repair technician for the next 20 years until his retirement. In January, 1987, tragedy struck the family when 14-year-old son David died as the result of a vehicle accident. Rennie served for a time in the National Guard, both in Oregon and South Dakota. He enjoyed geocaching, gardening, and traveling. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Rapid City. Rennie is survived by his wife, Karen, of Rapid City; daughter Christine Grover, son-in-law Shan Samansky, and granddaughter Alanna Grover of Copperas Cove, Texas; parents-in-law Irving and Helen Amundson, brothers-in-law Philip Amundson and Ralph (Janet) Amundson, all of Rapid City; daughters Twyla Nicholson, Kelly Garey, and Tracie Grover, all of Portland, OR; grandchildren Elisha (Sandy) Nicholson, Jessica Nicholson, Miranda Nicholson, and Shaun Garey, all of Portland; and Nathan Nicholson of Roseburg, Oregon; sisters Nancy Grover and Judy (Loren) Stapleton of Portland, Oregon; and brother Philip Grover of Fox, Oregon; three step grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one step great grandchild, two aunts, and numerous nieces and nephews.
