Reva Maas Brenneise, 69, Rapid City and formerly of Hot Springs died Thursday, August 28, 2008 at her home: Her husband Ken and twin sister Rilda were at her bedside. Reva was born November 15, 1938, in Custer, SD, one of identical twins, born to Floyd and Pearl Hendricks. Reva graduated from eighth grade, with highest honors, from the Seventh-day Adventist School, a county school. She graduated from Plainview Academy, Redfield, SD, in 1957 as valedictorian of her class. In 1961 Reva graduated from Black Hills State College with a degree in elementary education and remedial reading with a minor in music. She taught remedial reading in Royal Oak, MI the school term after graduation. In 1962 Reva returned to Hot Springs, SD and taught in rural schools including Maitland, Oral and Buffalo Gap. Reva married Kees Maas December 23, 1962 and they resided in Oral until they moved to Hot Springs in 1973. In 1986 the family moved to Fresno, CA. Reva returned to Hot Springs in 1987 and taught school in Oral. Reva married Ken Brenneise in November of 2008, surrounded by family and friends, in a ceremony full of love and optimism. It took 20 years to finally do the deed and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. This marriage brought both Reva and Ken great joy. Reva loved music and shared her talents by playing the piano and organ at her church as well as at other churches in the area, the VA Chapels and the State Veterans Home. Reva and her sister Rilda began singing at age 3 or 4 and sang at church, family gatherings, weddings and funerals. Reva gave piano lessons to many children. Reva was a great friend, always able to soothe hurt, invoke laughter, and listen. Reva was generous to a fault in that she was happy to give away what she had to make others more comfortable and/or happy. Reva never told others about her good deeds but did so in a quiet unassuming way. At the end of her life so many of the friends she loved had spent time by her side and with her family. The true beauty of her life was exhibited by the devotion she had always given coming full circle to embrace her in her final weeks; for this she was so thankful. Reva was preceded in death by her parents, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She is survived by her husband Kenas Brenneise of Rapid City, her brother Audley Hendricks (Nadeen), her twin sister Rilda Ketchum (Ken) her sons Peter Maas (Theresa), Lauw Maas, and Barry Maas (Peggy), her six step daughters, Kelly Commet (Jim), Robin Brenneise, Daena McKenzie (Randy), Carol Harrington, Holly Brenneise (Tom Lehnert) and Heather Andrews and her niece Jill Pengra-Wilson (Doug) who showed such devotion to Reva's care in the last months. She also leaves three grandchildren (Nick, Brandi, and Mikey) and 8 step grandchildren (Joslyn, Lindsey, Sean, Emily, Anna, Forrest, Nate, and Zac), one Aunt, Lela Gorsuch, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends – so many friends. She will be dearly missed.
