Obituary For Robert A. Millard

Robert A. Millard, 81, of Rapid City, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2009, at Rapid City Regional Hospital after a short illness. Robert spent most of his life working in and around Rapid City other than the time spent in the service with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Robert married his high school sweetheart, Maybelle Christensen, after he returned from the war. Robert settled in Rapid City helping his father run the family dairy farm north of where Cabela's is today. Robert could not be held down on the farm and soon went into the road construction business which took him and his young family to Miles City, MT, for a short time building roads. Robert switched his attention to intrastate trucking and ran a successful family business for years employing his sons and son-in-law. Robert's interests were car racing out at the Rapid City Speedway or fishing with his grandchildren. Robert was the last of a breed of men who did not need a book to figure it out. He ran it, took it apart, and fixed it! Robert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Maybelle, and his children Steve (Gail) Millard, Jerry Millard and Vicki (Dana) Call, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his youngest son, Tracy.
