Obituary For Robert 'Bob' Lyle Whittemore
Robert Lyle Whittemore, 92, Rapid City, died Wednesday, March 02, 2016 at Golden Livingcenter Prairie Hills. He was born March 27, 1923 in Estelline, SD. He was in the US Army, fighting in WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received in Okinawa, Ryuku Islands. After the war, he rejoined his parents Celia and Walton in business at Gambles Skogmo of Estelline. He married Mariem Galland Eisnach on Sept. 15, 1946 and they later moved to Watertown where he was very active in the American Legion and served as SD State Adjutant. In 1967 he began working with New York Life and moved his family in 1968 to Rapid City and to the Black Hills he loved so much. Robert was very active with Rotary and the American Legion and he was a strong supporter of Post 22 Baseball. He served as the Director of Boys State for 25 years. He was a wonderful Dad… and is survived by his wife, Mariem, son Jim, daughter Mary Gasper (Tim); 5 grandchildren and their families and many good friends.
