Obituary For Rose Marie Peterson

Rose Marie Peterson, 91, died on Saturday, Jan 5, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in New Underwood, SD. She was born in November 1921 in Ft Pierre, SD to Fred and Clara (Jeitz) Block and was raised on the family farm near Midland. She was a graduate of Midland High School and Black Hills Beauty College in Rapid City. She then worked in Martin, SD until she opened her own beauty shop in Philip, SD. She married Edward Peterson of Pedro, SD in February of 1943 in Bremerton, WA. Ed was a navy seaman who returned to SD after the war and the couple made their home in Rapid City where Ed began a career in carpentry. Rose Marie was an avid seamstress and an outstanding cook. She enjoyed quilting, dancing and gardening. She used her beauty school skills to give permanents to the neighborhood ladies and hair cuts to the neighborhood kids. Rose Marie was fun, outgoing and always made everyone feel comfortable, loved and welcome. Her children always considered her the best mom in the world. Her love was unconditional and she made every day special. She is survived by her children, Janice Burton (Jerry), Lakewood, WA; Margene Peterson and Mark Peterson, Rapid City; Cynthia Peterson, Salt Lake City, UT; Laura Pryde (Jack), McCloud, CA and Leanne Van Drunen (Bill), Salt Lake City, UT; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; her brother, Dick (Betty) Block, Midland and her sister Dolly Blucher, Philip. She was preceded in death by her husband and one grandson.
