Obituary For Salvador Joe' Arroyo
Salvador “Joe” Arroyo, Jr., 84, of Phoenix, AZ, and former long-time Hill City resident, passed away Dec. 24, 2007 at his home in Phoenix.Joe was born Aug. 14, 1923 in Sterling, CO to Salvador Joe and Marguerite (Aguilera) Arroyo, Sr. He married Lupe Vallejos on Apr. 4, 1943 in Ovid, CO. Joe served in the U.S. Army during WW II. Joe and Lupe made their home in Newcastle and Lusk, WY, before moving to the Black Hills in the early 1960’s. They lived in Edgemont and Sturgis before settling for many years in Hill City. Joe worked for many years with Summit Construction. He will be deeply missed by his children, Rita Gladson-Melendez (Lee) of Phoenix, Albert (Stella) Ramos of Julesburg, CO, Ilene (Steven) Hagen of Hill City and Sally Jo Larson of Cheyenne, WY; 3 sisters, Beatrice Vallejos and Teresa Luxford both of CA and Irene Lemelin of Augusta, ME along with 12 grandchildren, 19 gr. grandchildren and 5 gr. gr. grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lupe, Oct. 10, 2006 and also by his son, Salvador Joe Jr., a daughter, Vanessa Johnson, 2 grandsons and 3 brothers.
