Obituary For Sandra Kathryn Baldwin

Sandra Baldwin, age 85, of Box Elder, SD died Friday, October 24, 2025, at her home in Box Elder surrounded by her family.

Sandra (Sandy) Kathryn Baldwin was born June 2, 1940, in Sheboygan, WI. She was the daughter of Leonhardt and Bernadine (Kather) Steffen. They moved to Milwaukee, WI when Sandy was 10. In 1958, Sandy graduated from Washington High School in Milw. Afterwards, she worked at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. Soon after she met the love of her life, Glenn R. Baldwin. In 1964, she was united in marriage to Glenn in Milw. After their marriage, Glenn and Sandy spent many years living and transferring to various Air Force bases. Of these were K.I. Sawyer AFB in MI (64’ -66’, 71’-74’), Walker AFB in Roswell, NM (66’-67’), Beale AFB in Marysville, CA (67’-71’), and Ellsworth AFB in Box Elder, SD (74’-90’). Sandy lived in Box Elder for the remainder of her life after Glenn retired from the Air Force. She worked at McKie-Johnson Ford in Rapid City, SD for several years as a receptionist.

Sandy enjoyed being alongside her husband as he took part in different duties and activities. Together, Sandy and Glenn ran a Christmas tree lot at the Villa shopping mall in Box Elder, SD. She took pride in being the President of the Box Elder Kiwanis club and “first lady” while her husband was Mayor of Box Elder. She loved being part of the community.

Sandy enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, puzzles, playing games with her family, decorating her home, especially at Christmas time, and collecting gnomes. Some of her favorite memories were spending time with her grandchildren, while her daughter Kathi was living in Colorado. Sandy loved the Green Bay Packers, and cheered at every game, alongside her husband, and even put on “Packers Parties” with friends throughout the years. She was a proud “owner” of the Green Bay Packers and even attended several games. Sandy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who was always there for her family. She will be remembered for her kind and selfless heart, as she always cared for others before herself.

Sandy is survived by her husband Glenn of Box Elder, SD; children, Kathi (Baldwin) Mauck of Box Elder, Glenn J. (Wendy) Baldwin of Northport, FL; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 2 sisters Karen (Steffen) Marion and Jeannine Steffen of Milwaukee, WI; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William Steffen; 1 grandson; and best friend Kay Foust.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society.
