Obituary For Sarah Ferne Carter

Sarah Ferne (SF Haynes) Carter was born with a contagious smile and passion for life to be unmatched by anyone. She grew up playing football with the neighborhood boys, and lived in her cowboy outfit. She loved any outdoor activity whether it was fishing, canoeing, bike riding, hiking, skiing, skating, camping, or white-water rafting; the outdoors was her world to explore and conquer. Sarah considered the Black Hills to be her home where she found her unbounding inspiration for life. She loved her mother and father deeply and chose a life of music, just as they did, at an early age. Sarah and her sisters dreamed of becoming the next Lennon Sisters and embraced any opportunity to entertain people no matter the size of the audience. Her vim and vigor continuously flowed through her fingertips as she played instruments, created songs, poetry, and art. Sarah met and married her husband Cory in Mobridge SD, 1976. Together they shared 38 devoted years enjoying many travels and adventures together. Sarah always appreciated Cory’s cooking and the fact that she didn’t have to. Sarah dearly loved her only daughter, Hilary, who was by her side for many of their travels and shared many joyous times with her parents. Sarah’s passion for life continued with the precious times she spent with Alex, her only grandson. “My sweet boy” was how she lovingly referred to him. Even in her final moments, the mention of him would always make her smile. Sarah’s love for her family and friends was a constant in her life, and orchestrating a large family dinner was her specialty. Many fun and exciting times were had flying kites, bbq-ing, singing and roasting marshmallows in the backyard of her beautiful home. Her friends and family, and all who had the privilege to know or be dazzled by this magnificent personality, will miss her and all that she was. Everyone who knew Sarah knew her to be a sincerely loyal friend. She found her faith early in her teenage years and remained a faithful servant of Jehovah till the end. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses she enjoyed many long hours with her friends sharing her faith and Bible knowledge with others. Her hope for a resurrection on a paradise earth was an ever present comfort for her in the last few days. She will be missed dearly, and loved forever.
