Obituary For Shirley Dixon

Shirley Josephine (Podio) Dixon was taken to heaven on December 6, 2016. Shirley was born on January 31, 1943 to Joseph J. and Leota B. (Wocicki) Podio in Sundance Wyoming. Shirley’s family settled on the prairie at Four Corners Wyoming. She was one of three children to Joe and Leota. Shirley had an older brother Joe J. Podio Jr. and several years later came a younger Robert L. Podio. She attended prairie school until the 8th grade; from there Shirley attended Newcastle High School graduating in 1960. Shirley was a part of the local 4-H, FHA and her senior year she was named FFA Sweetheart. On November 27, 1960 she married the love of her life Gideon H. Dixon. They made their home in Newcastle, Wyoming. From this union came Gideon H. Dixon Jr. in November of 1963, Timothy J. Dixon in July of 1965 and a few years later Deeadra D.(Dixon) Stumpff in March of 1973. Shirley and Gideon then moved to Rapid City South Dakota in 1974 to pursue a business adventure. In 1988 the couple returned to Newcastle to live and be close to family. Before they moved back to Newcastle Shirley went back to college and finished her cosmetology degree. Upon coming home to Newcastle Shirley then spent the next 24 years as a cosmetologist. She didn’t have customers, she had friends. During the last five years Shirley and Gideon enjoyed their retirement traveling, gardening and spending time at home. Shirley leaves behind husband, of 56 years, Gideon H. Dixon of Newcastle, WY; son Gideon H. Dixon and wife Angela of Rapid City, SD; son Timothy J. Dixon and wife Rebecca of Seattle, WA; daughter Deeadra D. Stumpff and husband Greg of Newcastle, WY; grandchildren Christopher and wife Kayleigh, Sarah and husband Adam, Connagher and fiancé Cheyanna, Billi Jo, Emily and Abigail; great grandchildren Liam, Remi, Isaiah and one baby on the way. Shirley joins her father Joe Podio Sr., her mother Leota B, Podio and her great granddaughter Aila Dixon. Shirley was always surrounded by many family and friends that she loved and cherished very much. Any memorials in Shirley’s name will be welcome for the First United Methodist Church and The Helping Hands Foundation.
