Obituary For Shirley I Hunt

Shirley Ida Mae Hunt, 92, passed away January 11, 2015 in Rapid City, SD. Shirley, one of eight children of Lillian (Gretton) and Harry St. John, was born July 19, 1922 in Minneapolis, MN. In her younger years in Minneapolis she developed a love for outdoor activities especially ice skating. She also enjoyed her time spent driving a city bus and being one of the infamous "Rosie the Riveters". The activity she was most passionate about then was singing and dancing. This passion carried throughout her life culminating in her membership with the local singing group "Joyful Guys and Gals". Her love and compassion for others led to working for the local March of Dimes, special events at other senior centers and being a caring and compassionate companion for other elderly women in the Rapid City area. Her main activity over her later years was being the loving and caring 'Nan' to her twelve grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. It is this legacy of open, compassionate and sharing love which is demonstrated by all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren for which she will be most remembered.Shirley was preceded in death by Floyd A. Hunt, Sr., the father of her six children, two sons, Floyd A. Hunt, Jr., Harry Donald Hunt, great grandson Owen MacFarland, three brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her children, Tom (Kathy) Hunt, Mableton, GA, Roxann (Wilson) Tate, Miles City, MT, Peggy (Greg) Ritter, Gillette, WY, and Laura (Craig) Heisler, Rapid City, SD.
