Obituary For Shirley L. Foreman

Shirley LaNone Foreman, 85, Rapid City and formerly of Winner, died Thursday Aug. 9, 2007 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Shirley was born July 27, 1922 at the home of her parents Claude and Caroline (Schaefer) Bates, south of Emmet, NE. She attended grade school in Emmet and high school in O’Neill, NE, graduating in 1946. She traveled alone by train to La Jolla, CA to marry her fiancé from Emmet, NE; James Edward Foreman, who was in the Army, stationed in CA. They were married on June 13, 1943 in La Jolla and during James service in Europe during WWII, Shirley lived in California, Chicago and Georgia. To this union, 2 sons were born, Byron Edward and Craig LeRoy. Shirley and her husband James,a depot agent for the CN & W railroad, moved from Winner, SD in 1978 to Philip, SD. James transferred to be the CN & W depot agent in Rapid City in 1980. Shirley remained in Rapid City after James death. She was an active life member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed reading, cooking and gardening. Shirley is survived by her sons, Byron Edward (Vicki), Winner, SD; Craig LeRoy (Sharon), Ft. Collins, CO; grandsons, Wade Edward, Dana Ross (Kristi); Kyle Sean, Kipp James (Rosa) and great granddaughter Madilyn. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James in 1982 and 1 brother Wayne.
